Gums & Co., LLC was established in December 2020 as a natural extension of a lifelong commitment to civic engagement, strategic leadership, and community impact. The firm reflects both professional experience and a deeper lineage—one rooted in a family tradition of public service, advocacy, and dedication to strengthening communities.
Founded in Oakland, Gums & Co. was created to serve as a trusted partner to leaders, institutions, and organizations navigating complex public and community landscapes. Drawing on experience across government, communications, and community-centered initiatives, the firm was built to provide thoughtful counsel alongside disciplined implementation.

Kiana Gums, is a strategic public affairs professional dedicated to advancing equitable economic development and community-centered impact. As the founder of Gums & Co., LLC, she partners with government agencies, small businesses, and mission-driven organizations to turn bold ideas into actionable strategies that deliver real results.
With experience in communications, event production, project management, and community engagement, Kiana operates at the intersection of strategy and execution. She is known for her ability to design and lead high-impact initiatives—from shaping public narratives to producing dynamic events that amplify culture, community, and civic engagement.
Kiana brings extensive public sector experience, having served as Communications Director for Oakland Councilmembers and the City of Oakland’s Office of the Inspector General. She also served as a District Director, where she proudly delivered services to the residents of California’s 12th Congressional District.
A graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Kiana was recognized as both a McNair Scholar and ACE Scholar and received the distinguished Heart of a Lion Award—honors that reflect her leadership, academic excellence, and commitment to service.
Grounded in family, Kiana’s work is deeply influenced by the values of integrity, resilience, and legacy. Her surname, Gums, is more than a name—it is a standard she carries with intention, reflecting a commitment to building trust and creating impact that extends beyond the moment.
